What Is Limp Mode?

So your car has gone into limp mode. But what does that even mean? It basically means that the ECU within your vehicle has received information from one of the various systems to say that there is a serious fault and does not recommend that the vehicle is driven much further.

When the vehicle is placed into limp mode generally you will see a dashboard warning light appear, and the car will not drive like it used to, in fact the ECU will place limitations on the engine so that it cannot rev over a pre determined RPM, and the vehicle will not be allowed to go past a certian speed.

Limp mode is often reffered to as Limp Home Mode, because it is designed to do just that, either to get you home, or to your local garage.

You can remove your car from this status by using one of our diagnostic tools. The diagnostic tool will clear the fault so that the limp mode restriction is removed and can be driven as normally again. However, the fault will keep coming back until you have dealt with it. This is why it is always handy to keep a diagnostic fault code reader handy in your vehicle.

It is not recommended that you keep resetting the code to remove the car from limp mode, but there will be certial circumstances when you may have to.
