BMW X3 Dashboard Light Symbols

Dashboard warnings on your BMW X3 depend on the BMW Problem. It could be an indicator light for ABS, airbag, engine light or something else. There are many reasons why the dashboard shows warning lights and below is a list of the lights on the dashboard. You might need to buy a scanner online which will show BMW trouble codes & reset the warning light for good!

BMW X3 EML light, or commonly known as engine management light. The light is connected to the engine electronics module and if illuminated indicates an error with this module. BMW X3 Engine Warning Light - this warning light is effectively exactly the same at the 'SERVICE ENGINE SOON' light above. Depending on where you bought your BMW X3 you will either see this light, or the one above.

BMW X3 airbag warning light - if this warning light illuminates during normal operating conditions it indicates a problem within the airbag mosule. It does not mean that an airbag needs to be replaced, it could be a loose connection that has caused the error. BMW X3 ABS warning light - illuminates when there is a problem within the ABS system. More often than not this lights up due to a faulty ABS sensor which can often be full of dirt from the road, it is possible to clean the ABS sensor, but the chances are your cleaning will not last for long and will need to be replaced soon after that. You can diagnose which ABS sensor is faulty by using the iCarsoft i910. Since you took the time to remove the ABS sensor (which is no easy task for the home mechanic) you may aswell change your ABS sensor. The guide shows the scanner working on the E46, but works in the same way on all other models.

BMW X3 ABS warning light - See above. Depending on where you bought your BMW your ABS light may differ, but means exactly the same as the ABS light above.

BMW X3 Service Engine Soon warning light - If illuminated steady it indicates that there is a fault within the emission system & needs to be investigated by using a BMW trouble code scanner such as the iCarsoft i910. You can still drive your X3 with care though until the problem is found & fixed. If the light flashes or blinks it indicates a serious misfire and you should contact your local workshop as soon as possible.

BMW X3 oil warning light - if illuminates when driving it means that the oil level is at the absolute minimum and needs to be topped up as soon as possible. BMW Service Message Reset Guide

BMW X3 E83 Service message. If this message appears on the message centre of your BMW X3 E83 it means the vehicle needs to be serviced. Once the vehicle has been serviced, or you simply need to reset the message you can use the BMW oil service reset tool iCarsoft BM-II.

BMW X3 brakepad warning light - indicates that the brakepads have met their minimum thickness and need to be replaced as soon as possible. Sometimes your brakepad sensor can fail - if you need replacement BMW brakepad sensors visit www.bavariandominator.co.uk.

BMW X3 cruise control dashboard light - indicates that the cruise control function has been activated. Can be switched on or off at the push of a button.

BMW X3 flat tyre warning light - indicates that one or more tyres is not inflated correctly. Check your tyres and top up as nessecary.

BMW X3 Indicator flasher lights

BMW X3 brake warning light - Indicates a fault within the braking system. Sometimes it could be something small like the handbrake being engaged, or it could mean that the brake fluid needs to be topped up, or an ABS sensor needs to be replacd, generally coupled with the ABS warning light.

BMW X3 seatbelt warning light - buckle up!

BMW X3 lamp warning light - indicates that a light is defective and needs to be replaced.

BMW X3 washer warning light - indicates that your water & screenwash needs to be topped up before it runs out.

BMW X3 coolant warning light - your coolant has reached a minimum level and needs to be topped up as soon as possible.

BMW X3 battery warning light - indicates that the battery is not being charged correctly - contact your local workshop as soon as you can.

BMW X3 check gas cap - indicates that the petrol/gas cap & door are not closed correctly.
