BMW Z4 E89 Roadster EML warning light - the EML warning light will turn on if there is a malfunction within the engine electronics of your Z4. The most likely cause of this light turning on is a faulty sensor such as camshaft, crankshaft, Mass Airflow Meter (MAF) or ignition coil. BMW Z4 E89 Roadster oil warning light - the oil warning light can illuminate in different ways, the way in which is illuminates will depend on the actual fault as shown below.

The warning lamp lights up in red:
The engine oil pressure is too low. Stop the vehicle immediately and switch off the engine. Check the engine oil level and top up if necessary.

The warning lamp lights up in yellow while you are driving.
In addition, a signal sounds and "+1.0" appears in the instrument cluster which means that  the oil level is at the absolute minimum; refill as soon as possible. Do not drive more than 125 miles/200 km before refilling.

The warning lamp comes on in yellow after the engine is switched off.
A signal also sounds. You need to add engine oil at the earliest opportunity, e.g.
when you stop to refuel.

The warning lamp lights up in yellow within 30 seconds after the engine is started:
The oil level sensor is defective. It is not possible to issue a current or accurate
measurement. Have the system checked as soon as possible.

BMW Z4 E89 Roadster DTC Dynamic Traction Control warning light - when this DTC lamp is illuminated it means that the DTC system is activated and and the vehicle is set up to better deal with road conditions with snow or ice. It is basically designed to give you better traction control on the road surface.

BMW Z4 E89 Roadster DSC Dynamic Stability Control warning light - this warning light will start to flash when driving over road surfaces such as snow or ice, indicating that the traction control system is working to ensure that maximum traction on the road is acheived.

BMW Z4 E89 Roadster coolant level warning light - if the coolant warning dash lamp turns on, it means the coolant level in your system is too low and should be topped up as soon as you can. Be careful not to open the coolant cap when the engine is hot. Always wait until the engine is cool. If you notice that you have to top up quite regularly then you should check for leaks because it is common for the expansion tank which holds the coolant, to crack, this can lead to loss of coolant and engine overheating.

BMW Z4 E89 Roadster CHECK GAS CAP warning lamp lights up if the gas cap is not properly tightened and the OBD system can assume that fuel vapor is escaping. If the gas cap is then tightened, the warning lamp should go out within a few days.

BMW Z4 E89 Roadster brakepad warning light - The warning lamp lights up. The brake
pads have worn down to the minimum safe limit. Have the brake pads replaced as soon as possible.

BMW Z4 E89 Roadster brake warning light - if this warning lamp turns on it can mean a few things as shown below.

The handbrake is in the on position, please take the handbrake off.

The brake fluid level is too low, check your brake fluid level and top up of required.

The light can turn on with other warning light such as the ABS warning light, this is normal and indicates generally only an ABS fault.

BMW Z4 E89 Roadster battery warning light - If this lights up it signals that the battery is no longer being charged. The alternator drive belt is defective or there is a malfunction in the charging circuit of the alternator. Have the system checked as soon as possible.

BMW Z4 E89 Roadster automatic transmission cog warning light - if this light illuminates during normal driving conditions it means that the transmission is overheating. Reduce your speed immediately and pull over at a suitable location so that the transmission can cool down again. You can continue your journey, but moderate your speed and exercise due caution. Have the system checked immediately.
